Meet Harper.

Harper was born on September 23, 2013 and appeared to be a perfectly healthy baby. She was discharged from the hospital, continued to gain weight at an exceptional rate, and showed no outward signs of any complications. At a routine check-up with her pediatrician at 1-week old, a small heart murmur was discovered that was not audible at birth. Harper was referred to a pediatric cardiologist to have an echocardiogram.

At Harper's cardiology appointment at 2 weeks later, her parents received the most devestating news they had ever been given. In the words of the cardiologist, Harper's heart was "complicated." Harper was born with heterotaxy syndrome which brings with it a single ventricle heart, an interrupted inferior vena cava, pulmonary stenosis, and anomolous veinous return. Harper's first open heart surgery was May 13, 2015. She had a great recovery and is currently thriving!
